Matcha: Jakarta
Jakarta’s matcha scene is constantly evolving, and for me, there’s an exciting array of new spots and cafes to try. Whether you're looking for an earthy, umami-rich matcha experience or a creative fusion, this city has something for every green tea enthusiast. Here are my the match spots I have tried so far!
Uki Matcha
A hidden gem, tucked inside SCBD park, for true matcha purists, Uki Matcha serves some of the finest matcha beverages in town. Their matcha latte is rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced, while their matcha soft serve is a must-try for anyone who loves high quality and authentic matcha. They offer a wide selection of matcha grades, even their hojicha is worth a try. It’s my current favorite in Jakarta.
Chicory
I just love the cozy ambiance and food here. Chicory is personally my favorite cafe and they also delivers on their matcha latte - though more of a special sweet treat or dessert! It’s sweet but not too sweet (sometimes I ask to make it less sweet), perfectly creamy and the delicate touch of toasted sesame seeds adds a little nuttiness. Their white chocolate sesame matcha latte is a favorite, and pair it with their signature croissants or madeleines, it’s an indulgent experience worth savoring.
Matchaya
This spot takes matcha seriously, offering a wide variety of matcha-based drinks and desserts. I think it’s a great go-to for your daily dose of matcha since it’s opened a couple of outlets around town.
Kurasu
Kurasu is definetly the most aesthetic and trendy place for a matcha at the moment. It has a minimalist Japanese coffee shop vibe and serves a nicely whisked signature matcha that is quite smooth and perfectly sweetened (I don’t go with sweetness unless it’s honey oe maple syrup). Their matcha latte is a great option for those who enjoy a well-balanced and slightly creamy texture.
On My Matcha Wishlist
There are still a few places I’m eager to try, each promising unique takes on this vibrant green tea:
Matcha Bae – A spot dedicated entirely to matcha creations, from lattes to ice creams.
Matchaman – With a fun and modern approach to matcha, I’m excited to see what their menu has to offer.
Tsujiri – Another matcha powerhouse, Tsujiri offers a variety of matcha drinks, ice creams, and even shaved ice creations. Their strong and earthy matcha soft serve is a must-try for fans of bold flavors.
Nika Nation – A fairly new matcha spot with a cute flower logo that seems quite trendy and has been promoted by influencers.
Hakuji Matcha Tearoom – A tranquil matcha-focused tearoom that offers a traditional Japanese tea experience with premium matcha varieties.
