What is Shelf Therapy?

I’m thrilled to announce the launch of the Shelf Therapy Book Club—a space where books, ideas, and meaningful conversations come together! This new journey is close to my heart, and I’m so excited to share it with you all.

“Shelf Therapy is more than a book club, it’s a liberation movement.”

For the past two years I have been advocating on the importance of literacy and literature through #laksmiforliteracy But I’m excited to finally have a book club platform dedicated to keep talking about reading and writing. As their ambassador, I am so lucky to have a great team behind me, the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival. I first started the UWRF Book Club back in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic to help activate their social media, online presence and in hopes to reach out to younger readers. It’s hard to believe that it’s been four years. But now we’re back with a new platform and podcast. I’m delighted to share our new Book Club: Shelf Therapy.

What Is the Shelf Therapy Book Club Podcast?

The Shelf Therapy Book Club Podcast is more than just a discussion about books. It’s a community-driven exploration of the stories that shape us, the lessons we learn from them, and the ways literature can inspire our lives. As the host, my goal is to create a space where readers, dreamers, and thinkers can come together to share insights, exchange ideas, and discover the transformative power of storytelling.

Behind Episode One

In our very first episode, I dive into the world of storytelling with four inspiring women authors at the elegant Amandari library during the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival 2023. It was an impactful afternoon of conversation featuring Irish authour Megan Nolan, Italian journalist Claudia Bellante, Australian author Tracey Lien and Indonesian scholar and author, Dias Novita Wuri.
This episode serves as an invitation to step into a world where books aren’t just read—they’re felt and lived. The speakers shared stories on how they got into writing, what inspires them and the importance of books. The conversation is personal, reflective, and deeply inspiring. So whether you're discovering new titles to add to your TBR (to-be-read) pile or reflecting on the power of storytelling, this series promises to nurture both your mind and soul.

We’re excited for what’s to come next!

  • More Deep Dives into Impactful Books: we’re excited to have more conversations with authors, fellow readers, and thought leaders.

  • Gatherings: we excited to be working on in-person gatherings for our book loving community.

  • Interactive discussions: A chance for listeners to contribute their perspectives and be part of the dialogue. This isn’t just my podcast—it’s ours. Your voice matters, and I’m eager to hear your thoughts on the books and themes we explore.

  • Ubud Artisan Market 21st to 22nd December: stay tuned for the return of the Ubud Artisan Market this holiday season because we will be launching some cool Shelf Therapy Merchandise & activation event!

  • Collaborations: we are excited about the prospect of working together with other book clubs and communities to share our love for books.

I’d love for you to tune in, share your thoughts, and grow with us. Let’s make the Shelf Therapy Book Club Podcast a home for all things literary and inspiring. That’s why I say that Shelf Therapy is more than a book club, it’s a liberation movement.
