Releasing Baby Turtles into The Wild

If you’ve ever wondered why you should help release baby turtles into the wild, keep reading…

Indonesia is known to have one of the most fascinating marine life in the world. But with so many beach front developments, like beach clubs, malls, hotels, etc., happening in Bali right now, sea creatures are losing more and more of their natural habitat.

Making it especially hard for sea turtles to hatch their eggs and maintain the survival rate of their babies. The sad truth is that only one in a thousand babies released make it to adulthood.

There are many factors affecting their livelihoods but man-made dangers like the turtle trade, marine pollution, and even unethical conservation sites have added to the list. So let’s be wise in our choices and mindful of our actions.

But nonetheless we should keep trying our best to protect our marine life to keep our ecosystem in balance and harmony. Anyway, I was really glad to be invited to a brunch and turtle release to celebrate the merchandise launch of Moreno Bali x local artist, Eka Sudarma Putra, where a part of their merchandise sales are actually going to the turtle conservation site.

I had never held and released a hatchling before, so I was super excited. I also really appreciated learning about the life and importance of sea turtles.

Before releasing the hatchlings, we were asked to name the ones we chose. The first thing that came to mind was Snow and White. We then waved goodbye and prayed for their survival in the wild.
